The Corn Islands were roamed by the Pirates of the Caribbean. Big Corn shielded escaped slaves that were fleeing captivity.

Getting There

BY AIR

LaCostena is the local airline that flies from the Capital City of Managua (MGA) to Big Corn Island (CIS). The flight is about 1 hour and costs approximately U$250 (return).

BY SEA

Option 1 Bus 280 km (5 hours) to Rama then Slow Cargo Boat to Corn Island 14 hours approx U$30 (one way)
Option 2 Bus 280 km (5 hours) to Rama then panga (2 hours) to Bluefields then Water Taxi (4 hours) to Corn Island
Option 3 Bus 350 km (6 hours) to Bluefields then Water Taxi (4 hours) to Corn Island

~TIPS~
You can take either the "chicken bus" that makes many stops and is hot, or the "express bus" that is direct that can be cold with a/c.
